Finding Birds in crete book
Finding Birds in crete book
This book describes all the best birding sites on Crete, pointing out exactly where to go to see birds such as Imperial and Bonelli’s Eagle, Lesser Kestrel and Red-footed Falcon, Ruppell’s Warbler and Ortolan Bunting and highlighting where you are most likely to find rare migrants such as waders, herons, pipits, wagtails, warblers and flycatchers.
Dave Gosney writes:
The late Stephanie Coghlan would often tell me how great the birding was on Crete. She visited there almost every year and wrote a book describing her favourite sites. However, that book, last updated in 2001, is now out of print and almost impossible to get hold of so, when I found a copy in a second-hand bookshop, I decided to try to bring it up to date. I therefore spent almost all of April 2026 in Crete and visited almost every site in her book plus quite a few new ones. Some of them seemed to have deteriorated over time but there were some real hot-spots and I was finding terrific birds, migrants and breeders, on almost every day of the trip. I’m hoping this book will help you have as good a time as I had, whichever part of the island you get to.’
