Apart from the internationally famous sites such as Santa Ana and Bentsen, MacAllen is also close to a number of other great spots including Quinta Mazatlan, Anzalduas, Old Hidalgo Pumphouse, Allen Williams’ Yard and Jane’s Ponds, not to mention sites for parrots and parakeets and the spectacle of dozens of Broad-winged Hawks coming to roost in the suburbs during migration periods
All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in South Texas’
If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Sites around MacAllen
Quinta Mazatlan is a beautiful old house close to MacAllen airport. The grounds are managed as a wildlife refuge so it’s an easy place to see your first Kiskadees, Chachalacas, Golden-fronted Woodpeckers and much more.
