This is possibly the best place in Europe to see Wallcreepers, as there are are several different sites that can be checked, all of which have Wallcreepers pretty regularly during the winter. There are also 3 feeding stations for vultures, some terrific places to look for raptors and a supporting cast that includes Alpine Accentor, Citril Finch, Rock Bunting, Western Orphean Warbler etc.

All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in North Spain’

If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Alquezar is the jewel in the crown of this region, not just as a tourist attraction but as a birding site too. This is one of the best sites for Wallcreeper, as long as the cliffs aren’t covered in climbers, and the best of the vulture feeding stations is here too.

This is the view from the ‘observatorio des buitres’ in the village of Santa Cilia de Panzano. The distant grey slab in the centre of the picture is where the food is placed for vultures. This is the best of the feeding stations for Lammergeier.

The observatorio is located behind the village playground
