The road into the desert from Erfoud takes you to some of the most reliable spots for Desert Warbler and sites where Egyptian Nightjar and Desert Sparrow have been found in some years.

All the sites in this section are treated, in detail and with precise maps and directions, in my book ‘Finding Birds in Morocco: the deserts’

If you have any information which you feel would help to update the book, please email me at dave@easybirder.co.uk and I’ll add your observations to these pages

Erfoud

This spot, site 2 in my book, is often an easy place to locate Desert Warbler

Look for the Desert Warblers wherever you see these thorny bushes - even if they don’t perch on the bushes, the birds are often on the ground at their base

A distant view of the Auberge Said - a relatively new hotel where Desert Sparrow has been seen. I have a theory that whenever a new building such as this appears, it is quickly colonised by Desert Sparrow but, if the building is substantial enough then a colony of House Sparrows will become established, pushing out the Desert Sparrows
