Akrotiri plain and salt lake
Wednesday, 24 August 2011
The prominent headland is perfect for migrants. The salt lake is the best place in the Western Palearctic for seeing Demoiselle Cranes but you have to go at the right time of year and the best time of day.
This is the chapel of Aghios Georgios - a useful landmark and potential migrant trap
There are plenty of open areas such as this which are attractive to rarities such as Dotterel and Cream-coloured Courser
Scrubby areas with bushes are good for shrikes and buntings
The plain is criss-crossed with driveable tracks
This is the track along Ladies’ Mile looking towards Limassol with the beach on the right and potentially good pools on the left. Owen Roberts had a Bairds Sandpiper in the these pools in December 09
